This is just a quick thank you to everyone who turned out to the recent dances at Higashiyama and Tambabashi/Fushimi. We had some very nice dances, and I am glad to say, even though we announced it was last minute, that we were able to raise 5,000 yen to the schop-dan fireworks festival. Well done everyone!

先月の東山ダンス、伏見ダンスに参加してくれたみなさん、どうもありがとう！いくつかとてもいいダンスも踊れて、そして直前のお知らせだったにも関わらず、スコップ団に寄付するために5000円を集めることができました！ゆうちょ銀行のほうから、もう振り込みました。ほんとうにどうもありがとう。

As it turns out, I was introduced to the head of another project helping East Japan Earthquake survivors, this time in Otsuchi in Iwate. In commemoration of the first anniversary of the earthquake, they are holding a photo exhibition at the International Community Center in the beginning of March. I saw some of the pictures of their town before and after the disaster, and they are very interesting, so I am looking forward to seeing the full exhibition. そして偶然にも、東北の被災地を支援しているほかの団体のひとと先日知り合いました。岩手の大槌で活動しているそうです。あの日からもうすぐ一年経つので、蹴上の国際交流会館にて写真展を行うそうです。災害以前以後の写真を少し見せてもらいましたが、とても興味深かったです。準備段階や当日のスタッフで、まだボランティアの人数が足りていないようなので、ボランティアをしたいという人はちだえつこさんchidalohae@yahoo.co.jp　までメールをしてみてください。一時間でも二時間でも、ありがたいそうです。団体のＨＰはこちらです。http://www.guruttootsuchi.org/

Lastly, I must mention for all you dance lovers that the Wim Wenders movie ("Pina") about the great dancer/choreographer Pina Bausch is playing at T-Joy Cinema in Aeon mall. It was awesome!

さあさあ次のダンスが今週末に近づいてきました！

突然ですが、今回のダンスで集まったお金は、場所代とお礼代以外、震災でなくなった方たちへの鎮魂花火のために寄付させていただきたいと思っています。ぜひぜひいらしてくださいね！
「天国にぶっぱなせ！」は、来月の３月１０日、くもりでも雨でも、宮城にて行う花火大会です。スコップ団という、被災した家を清掃する活動（そしてその家の方が帰る前に去るんだそう）をしてきた団体が主催しています。お墓にお供えするお花のように、天国にいる２万人の死者、行方不明者のみなさんに「元気だよ」と伝えるための花火です。ぜひ、くわしくは以下のＵＲＬをご参照ください。

そして直前のお知らせですが、フランスから特別なお客様、ミッシェル・ブリオンさんが来てくれます。直輸入のフレンチコントラが楽しめますよ！以前来てくれたときも、とても楽しかったです。これは見逃せません。そして、今回も生演奏の音楽で踊れます！

できるなら、早い時間に来てください。特に新しいダンサーたちは、最初に基本の動きをおさらいします。5時からです。

それと、３月３日にはアイリッシュパブ、ノームにてシンギング・アラウンド・ザ・テーブルがあることもお知らせします。先月コントラダンスのあとそのまま大勢でおじゃましたのですが、３０人以上の人達と、おいしいご飯と音楽がたくさんのすばらしい時間を過ごしました。あなたもぜひ来てみてください！詳しくは下記に。

コントラダンスは３月１７日に京都でセントパトリックス祭に参加します！

コントラダンスとアイルアンド音楽は切っても切れない関係ですね。コントラダンスは、アイルランド音楽や文化を広く普及させたし、アイルランド音楽は世界中のダンサーの心にコントラを刻み込みました。

というわけで、私たちコントラダンスは３月１７日に京都でセントパトリックス祭に参加します！コントラ京都がセンパト祭に参加するのは今回が初めての試み、なので皆さんの一番鮮やかなグリーンの衣装で、私たちと踊りに来てください。

京都では、毎年アイルランド音楽のミュージシャンやアイリッシュパブが協力して、お祭りを開催してきました。今年は、新京極商店街の中にある「ろっくんプラザ」（新京極六角）をメイン会場にして、アイルランド音楽のLiveやダンス、そしてアイルランドグッズやCDの販売、京都のそれぞれのアイリッシュパブ自慢の料理とお酒、ギネスビールなどが楽しめます。

１２時からのオープニングパレードは新京極～寺町商店街をグリーンで染め上げ、続く１３時からはイーリアンパイプスのバンド「鞴座」が、そして１３：３０～１４：３０までは京都の選りすぐりのミュージシャンによるバンドでコントラダンス！
みんな遅れないように友達を連れてきてください☆
その後は、２：５０分から京都文教大学の「民音の会」によるコンサートがあります。

また3月11日～16日までをセンパト週間として、カフェやバー、古本屋にてアイルランド音楽Live（投げ銭制）を開催！
素敵なお店でアイルランド音楽が楽しめます

This Saturday: Tohoku Benefit Dance!

We have a special announcement about the Dance this Saturday.

We are going to donate all the proceeds from the dance to the "Shooting up to Heaven" Fireworks Festival in Miyagi.
This event is a special memorial for those who died in the Tohoku Quake last year.
It's inspiration is that, just as we might tenderly place flowers on a grave in memory of a loved one, the lighting of the fireworks will send prayers to the 20,000 who tragically perished.
The event is being put on by Schop-Dan, a volunteer group that anonymously provides post-quake clean up on behalf of those who are not able to.

Well we are gearing up for another great dance this Saturday including live music.
One piece of last minute news is that we will have a special guest, Michel Brion, all
the way from France, who will lead us in some authentic french contras. We
have done these before and they are a lot of fun, so don't miss it.

Please come early if you can, especially new dancers, as I will review all the basic steps at 5:00.

Also, I should announce that March 3rd there will be a Singing Around the
Table event at Gnome. Last month many of us went over after the dance and
it was a wonderful time with over 30 people and lots of good food and
music. I recommend coming if you can! See the announcement attached below for more information.

And of course, let's not forget the next Fushimi Dance on the 26th
and the St. Patrick's day dance.

ありがとうとだいじなおしらせ

まず、昨夜をすばらしいダンスの夜にしてくれたみなさん、ありがとう！おめでとう！最終的に、２２人のひとが集まってくれて、５人のミュージシャンたちの音楽で踊ることができました。年も性格も出身地もばらばらで、バラエティに富んでいました。フランス、ベルギー、イラン、、、宇治、滋賀！新年の幕開けに最適のダンスでしたね。

はじめての人達もたくさん来てくれて、お互い協力しあってすばらしい結果になりました。ちいさなこどもたちがずっと踊ってくれたのにはびっくりしたし、うれしかった。いつもながら、気長に我慢強く接してくれてありがとう。お互いに、そしてなにより僕にーー僕のへたくそな日本語、ときどき間違えてまったく正反対のことを教えていたりすることに。まったくはじめて踊ったひとたちが、どんどん堂々とエネルギッシュに、にこにこしながら踊っているのを見ると、コントラダンス教えててよかったな、やっててよかったなあって思います。これ以上のしあわせはありません。
あと、事務連絡。コントラダンスのHPが開けなくなっていると教えてもらいました。教えてくれた人達、どうもありがとう。もう直してもらったので、開けるようになったはずです。また問題があったら教えてね。

２つめは、くじびきをしてプレゼントあげるって言ってたのに、忘れてしまってたこと！次回まで待っててね。しばらく、前もって連絡してもらう方式でいきますので、次回のダンス（２月１８日）に来れるひとは、また連絡ください。急に来れるようになったひとは、もちろん来てくれてかまわないし大歓迎だけど、前もってだれがくるのかわかると、変更や大事なお知らせもしやすいしね。

それと、今の場所では、外履きの靴でそのまま踊っていいことになっています。スニーカーでもいいし、スリッパでもなんでも、踊りやすいようにご自由にどうぞ。服も同様です。踊りやすい、お好きな服装でどうぞ。

Felicityから：Singing Around the Table

次回の歌声喫茶は3月3日（土）です。歌いたい歌があったら持ってきてください。楽器できる人歓迎です。
1月28日、Singing Around the Table に来てくれた人たち、ありがとうございました。一杯来てくれて、一杯リクエストしてくれて、楽器の演奏も入ったりと、すごく楽しかったです。とくに、「アメージンググレース」は大勢で気持ちよくハモることが出来て、楽しかったです。
今回はスコットランドの国民的詩人、ロバート・バーンズの誕生日の3日あと、ということで、バーンズの詩のついた「麦畑」を日本語と原語の両方で歌ったり、スコットランドの舟歌を歌ったりできて、良かったです。
スコティッシュっぽい服を着てきてくれた人、ありがとうございました。また、Gnomeのゆうこさんとたつやさんとスタッフの皆さん、ありがとうございました。
次回のSinging Around the Tableを準備しています。ぜひお友達を誘って、楽器をもって、（できれば）ご参加下さい。

A big thank you to all those who came to the 28th January Singing Around the Table which was the biggest so far! Hiroko has written about it below.
(from Hiroko) Dear Everyone: On the 28th of January we are happy to have around 25 people came to sing Scottish & other songs, and some people who played music instruments. The harmony was great! We would like to thank everyone who came to share our Singing Table. That day was 3 days' after Burns night, and Felicity prepared several scottish songs including ones with Burn's lyrics. Also we were happy to sing numbers in response to the requests from the participants. Also thank goes to Yuko san, Tatsuya san, Mr. Valentine's son, and other stuffs of Irish Pub Gnome for their kind hospitality to serve us good beer and food, as well as the place to sing. Thank goes to those who came with Scottish-ish clothes. Your efforts helped us feel as if we are in a Scottish-ish place. It is a very good experience to utter your voice loudly; it's fun, relaxing, and encouraging; and healthy! You don't have to sing well; just enjoy it. Contra at St Patrick's Day Music Festival March 17th

Contradance and Irish Music are like two lovers who fell in love at first sight and have been inseparable ever since. Contra has helped spread Irish music and
culture to lands far and wide, and Irish music and culture have carried
contra into the hearts of dancers all over the world.

That's why we're proud to be taking part in the Annual St Patrick's Day
Festival in Kyoto Music Festival on Saturday, March 17th. For the first
time, a CONTRAKYOTO dance will be one of the events at the festival, so
put on your finest green outfit and come dance with us.

The opening parade starts at 12, followed by a live aeolian pipe band
concert featuring Fuigoza at 1PM.
At 1:30, the CONTRA dancing will start, with a live session band and
plenty of Irish food and music from the best Irish pubs in Kyoto. Bring
your friends and don't be late.
At 2:50, there will be a concert by the Ethnic Music Club of Kyoto.

The festival is being held at Rokkun Plaza, in shuikyogoku arcade, near
Movix. A map and full information is available here

GREAT DANCE...Some announcements

First of all thanks and congratulations to everyone for making a wonderful dance last night! We ended up having around 22 dancers (a wonderful mix of all ages and stripes), five musicians, and people from many exotic places (France, Belgium, Iran...Uji, Shiga!). What a great way to kick off the new year.

There were many newcomers, and everyone really worked together so nicely it turned out awesome! I was so impressed and happy that the young kids danced with us throughout the night. Thank you all for being so patient with each other and most of all me, my rough japanese, and my sometimes backward teaching. Seeing people go from raw beginners to confident, energetic, and smiling dancers made it was a truly rewarding evening for me. I couldn't have been happier.

Some housekeeping: Some people have reported that for them their anti-virus (Trend Micro) is blocking our website. Thank you for letting me know. This is problem with our "parent" site, not our site. I have contacted Trend Micro and I hope they will be fixing the problem soon. In the meantime, I have every reason to believe the website is safe, and you can remove antivirus blocking on it if you wish, or wait till the problem is fixed. I just got word from Trend Micro, and they have changed the website status to safe. Please let me know if you continue to have a problem with the site.

Secondly, I forgot to give out the door prizes! So, this will have to wait till next time. For the time being we will continue to use the R.S.V.P. system, so if possible please let me know if you are coming. It is OK to show up "unannounced", but an R.S.V.P. is helpful so I can know how many people are coming and notify people of any changes or important information.

I also want to remind/inform people people that we are allowed to wear normal shoes in the hall. So if you want to bring comfortable shoes, like sneakers, to use, that is OK. Otherwise, we have slippers and people seem OK with dancing in those. The same thing goes for clothing...loose, casual, and comfortable for dancing is best.

でいびっどが、フレンドリーに、かつちょっと急かしながら、来週土曜日のコントラダンスは事前予約制だということを再度お知らせします！今よりもっと集まりたいところです。

何人かのミュージシャンの方々からは連絡をもらっているので、すばらしい音楽が期待できそうです。あとお楽しみで、プレゼントを用意しています。くじ引きでラッキーなだれがあたるかな？

Very Important Message

Dear Contra Dancers Past and Present:

First of all, Happy New Year to one and all. Please read this important email...

It is time to start thinking about the next contra dance (Saturday, January 28th, from 5-9PM at Higashiyama near Sanjo). In order not to disappoint people who may be coming from far away, I have decided to institute an R.S.V.P. system.

I think it takes about a minimum of 16 people to make a dance successful, so if you are planning to attend, you must rsvp me at contrakyoto@gmail.com or by phone 070 6475 5855 beforehand.

This is very important, because if by the day before the dance (friday the 27th) it looks like we will not have enough people definitely coming, I will, sadly and reluctantly cancel the dance (despite the cost). If I do cancel it, I will send out an email and post on facebook, by saturday morning 10 am. If you are planning to come, please check for this email, especially if you are coming from far away. (If email/fb does not work for you, let me know and I will make special arrangements.)

I know this may cause some inconvenience for some, but it will also save a great deal of inconvenience for all.

I really hope we will be able to have a wonderful dance. Many, if not most of you, dancers have told me how fantastically fun contra has been for you. But for various reasons, attendance has been very irregular. Please bear with me as I say a few words about this.

Like many worthwhile things in life, contra dancing has a learning curve, so it is normal to occasionally feel that it is difficult, or that you may not understand it, or are good enough, or have seen enough to decide it is not for you. If this has happened to you, I ask you hang on and keep trying. Given the uncertainties of transplanting the seeds of contra culture into the japanese soil, it may take a little longer for people to feel adjusted to it, and I ask your patience.

While the contra steps are nominally easy, I know that fully absorbing and putting them together takes a little time. It's unfortunately true that when we don't understand something right away that we risk underestimating or failing to realize how deep and rewarding the experience will be once we get past the first stages. This leads to discouragement. That's why sticking with it is so vital to appreciating all contra has to offer.

It has been one of the difficult things for me to inspire people to have faith in the fact that I know from my own and countless other people's experiences that if one perseveres, one's enjoyment and understanding of contra can grow over time into something immensely satisfying and beyond expectation. This it the experience I really want to share with people, that is to say YOU! If I wasn't so certain of it, I wouldn't have kept working for so many years to overcome the difficulties of teaching it!

And I know, from watching several of our longstanding members, "ordinary" people with no "skill" or "experience" with dance, become smooth, elegant, and graceful dancers, who struggled and doubted and sweated and were confused and overcame it, that it can happen here and to anyone, in japan, too. Why were they different? Because they refused to believe they couldn't. They refused to believe they weren't smart, talented, young, healthy, or "good" enough. They refused to accept any excuses for not believing contra is for everyone.

It can be confusing perhaps that each event can be quite different. The particular chemistry between people at each event creates its own unique energy. There is something unpredictable, but exciting about it. There is a part of the wonder and magic of contra that can only be felt by letting yourself experience it often with different groups and on different evenings.

So don't think one dance, or even a few dances is enough. Don't let bad dances discourage you. If one dance didn't meet your expectations, please consider giving it another shot. I assure you the next will be different. Some people find their groove quickly, almost immediately, but for other people it takes a little longer. I hope people know that I will be as patient with them as they need, if they give me their patience in return.

There is only one thing that I cannot overcome. There is a human tendency to think, "I can and want to go, but if I don't come this time, it will be alright because others will come in my place". I want to encourage people to resist that tendency, because if enough people believe this, contra will not be able to continue. The opportunity you don't take is the opportunity that is being lost now, and in the future. The more people take it now, the richer that opportunity will be now and in the future.

In sum, we can provide the music, the setting, the instruction, and more; we are here at your service and request; but it is up to you to invest your time and energy into giving contra your best shot and faith and building it into a wonderful and unique community that is truly self-sustaining and life-enriching.

まず何より、あけましておめでとうございます！これはとっても大切なメールなので、ぜひ読んでくださいね。

そろそろ次のコントラダンスについて考えるころです。（東山にて１月２８日土曜日５－９時）
遠方から来てくれるひとたちをがっかりさせないようにするために、来れるひとは前もって連絡してもらう方式にすることにしました。

ダンスを楽しめるようにするには、最低16人は必要です。

もし1月27日（金）までに十分来れる人がいないようだったら、とてもざんねんですが、ダンスをキャンセルしようと思います。
当日の朝10時までには、開催できるかどうかの連絡をします。

これでは具合が悪いという人もいるかもしれませんが、多くの人にとっていいことだと思います。

すばらしいダンスを開催できることを本当に願っています。今までたくさんの人達が、コントラダンスがどれだけ楽しかったか、僕に伝えてくれました。しかし、いろいろな理由から、参加人数は多かったり少なかったりします。このことについて、あまり愉快ではないかもしれませんが、聞いてほしいことがあります。

ほかのことと同じように、コントラダンスを学ぶときのラーニング・カーブというのがあると思います。だから、難しいとか、わからないとか、これは私向きじゃないなと感じるのは自然なことです。もしそう思ったなら、ぜひあきらめないで続けてください。日本の土地にコントラ文化の種を撒くのは。。。。　時間がもう少しかかりそうなので、気長にいることをお願いしたいです。

コントラのステップはたいていかんたんですが、自由に動き回れるようになるにはすこしは時間がかかります。
あいにく、私たちはすぐにぴんとこないことに関しては、その後どれだけ深い体験になる可能性があっても、最初の第一段階を突破しないまま辞めてしまうことがたくさんあります。だから、続けることは、コントラによって味わえる体験を十分に楽しむためには、かかせません。

私自身、そして数え切れないほどたくさんの人達の経験から言えるのは、コントラダンスの楽しさや理解は、時間とともに巨大な満足感と予想もできなかった何かに成長するんだということです。そのことを伝えたくて、今までやってきました。今これを読んでくれているあなたと、その気持ちを共有したいのです。もしこのことに少しでも疑いがあったら、私自身こんなに何年間も、教えるという難しいことにチャレンジし続けられません！

そして、何人かのずっと来てくれている人達を見ていて思うのですが、彼らはきっとダンスに関してなんの「経験も」「技術も」ない「ふつうの」人達でした。彼らも、疑ったり、うまくできなかったり、汗をかいたり、困惑したりしていたと思います。それが今は滑らかに、エレガントに踊っているのです。日本でも、誰にでも、これは起こりうることなんだと思うのです。それを乗り越えた人達は、できないとか、わからないとか、若くないからとか、十分に「よく」ない、と思うことを拒否したのです。きっとできる、と、思ったのです。

毎回、集まっている人達のエネルギーによって、場の雰囲気はかなり異なりますよね。それをマイナスにとらえるのでなく、それがコントラの不思議な魅力でもあると思って、その場に身をゆだねたら、いいんじゃないかと思います。

We are really excited to announce that we have found a new location for the Takano Dance, the Higashiyama Iki iki Shimin Katsudo Center. It is located just a few minutes from the Sanjo Keihan.

We had a wonderful contra yesterday in Fushimi. Lots of dancers, lots of fun! Thanks to everyone who participated. .

Mark your calendars: Next Fushimi Dance is on July 3rd. The time will be the same but there will be a NEW LOCATION, conveniently near kyoto station, to be announced.

It's a very well done history of contra...I really wish I could translate this into japanese (any takers?) because the quality is excellent and I think it would help people understand the evolution of contra and contra music (and how we are part of it). Well, the dance is alive, but not so sure it's kicking.
Thanks for getting back to me. I really dont expect many people to come this way, but every so often I get an inquiry, and I thought I ought to make ourselves official, which of course means making it into the dance gypsy....I learned ot dance in Etna and Thetford and Lebanon, and am a many time survivor of the Brattleboro Dawn Dances, though before I came here I was in Portland (the yankee one) , NIce to hear from someone back home.

Anyway, the address question is a bit tricky.

There are really two dances, one at the Takano Church in kyoto, the other at the Coop in Tamababashi, but it called for historical reasons the Fushimi dance (these are two nearby suburbs to kyoto). Soon, one or the other may or may not be continuing or combining with the other, though the plan is to keep them alive.
The latter is technically a separate offshoot of our original Takano dance, run semi-independently, but anyone from the US is probably better off going through me,,.

I assume you want the address of the dances themselves? from a search point of view, the best keywords are contrakyoto, fushimi contra, takano contra, in kyoto or fushimi. tambabashi is unlikely to work.

While cleaning up entries in the Dance Gypsy, I discovered the incomplete entry for your dance. I assume you ran into the brick wall of a venue system that doesn't do a decent job on venues outside of North America... sorry about that.
But I was happy to see (1) a dance series in such an (seemingly) unlikely place, and (2) a foreign attempt to use the Dance Gypsy. Only other dance currently listed in such a far away place is in Christchurch New Zealand.

Assuming your series is still alive and kicking, I can offer you two helpful ideas/suggestions:
    (1) I can currently add the address for your series manually. If you send me the address, I'll add it in (dances do not appear in most searches unless they have a location (most dancers search near their home or near where they will be)... and alas even when they do appear they don't show even the country)
    (2) This summer I will be extending the venue capability find locations worldwide. (Last month I added the ability to search based on any location worldwide. Hopefully worldwide venues will go as smoothly.

2. Good news: Fushimi is BACK! Next dance is on June 5th...more info upcoming. This is a great opportunity to reach out to more people and get new dancers, but we do need some help with this project. See below. There will be two contradance demonstrations, one for for kids and one for adults. Romain will also be holding a demo of French Dances. 3. GREAT News: Contrakyoto is starting a new collaboration with Peter Damaschek, a fine Contra Dance musician from San Diego and elsewhere in the US. He lives in Kyoto. He is going to be playing for upcoming dances US. His being here is an opportunity to do something here in Kyoto and he has started a FACEBOOK PAGE for contra in kyoto.

登場しました。それとヘイとを合わせたダンスもできました。
今までで一番きれいなダンスのひとつだったんじゃないかな。

すこしずつですが、経験者の人が増えてきてくれているおかげ
で、これからますますおもしろくてきれいな動きのダンスがで
きるようになりますね♪

さて！クリスマス直前のお知らせになってしまいましたが、で
いびっどとフェリシティさん（という歌い手のお友達）が言い
だしっぺになりまして、クリスマスキャロルを行います。

クリスマスキャロルていうのは、クリスマスにちなんだ歌を歌
いながら、町を練り歩くというものです。映画で見たことある
かも？

クリスマスはにぎやかなものである一方、心を静かにする聖な
る夜でもあると思います。心を静めて、夜の空気を吸いながら
、クリスマスの美しい歌を、みんなで歌いましょう。英語のも
あるし、にほんごのも用意しています。こういった歌を予定し
ていますので、予習できる方は聞いてね。

Le bal commence à 13h et finit à 16h.

This is just a short message to tell you about the next Petit Bal (French Folk Dance Party) at the French Institute in Kyoto on December 12.
The ball will starts at 1pm and finish at 3pm.
This time we won't have the Marché (French market) but you can still enjoy the Café or bring your own beverages.

Our special guests for December Ball are David and Yukie, who will teach us some Contradance, a dance born between England and France who is now very famous in the United States.

おひさしぶりです。いかがお過ごしですか。

雨なのでYOU TUBEで遊んでいたら、いろいろいいビデオが見つかりました。せっかくなので、コントラダンス関係のビデオを今日は２つ紹介します。

★マサチューセッツ州コンコードでの大晦日コントラ
New Year's Eve Contra-dance

「コントラはものすごく汗かく！！」と、はじめて踊った人ほど思うようですが、実際はこんなにゆったり、リラックスして踊れます、という例。スウィングが、２人がひとつの輪のようになって回っているのをぜひ見てみてください。

ただ歩いているだけなのに、草のようにひょうひょうとしていたり、ジプシーみたいにどこかひょうきんさや妖艶さを匂わせていたり・・・。

★ニューハンプシャーのピーターボローでの踊り

これにもいい踊り手がいっぱい映っているので紹介します。
このダンスではとくに男のひとたちもトワル（くるくる回る、回せられる）をすばらしく楽しんでいるのがすきだなと思いました。楽に回せ、回されるようになると、わたしたちのコントラもきっとぐんと楽しさがUPするはず。途中から、バンドの遊びでジャズの曲になりますが、それもたのしい。みんなが音楽そのものになってるみたいです。

携帯でこのメールを受け取ってるとそのままでは見れないかもしれないけど、パソコンを開けたときにぜひ見てみてください。ああ、踊りたい！！

Well it is rainy today so it's been the best day for browsing videos at YOUTUBE. I found lots of cool contradance videos from America so let me introduce some of my favorites to you today. David is, yes, curled up on a big bean bag and taking a nap.

New Year's Eve Contra-dance

--Some people told me that contra was very hard exercise for them. This is a good example that shows it doesn't have to be... The dancers are all dancing in a very relaxed mood, even when they are swinging. Lots of great dancers.

During the month of November Sayaka-chan will be having a simultaneous exhibition of illustrations at two places: Cafe/Gallery "En", and "the Boulangerie Kopec".

As to Contra in November, there are some very very special things happening, so please mark your calendars:

As we have announced in prior emails, the Fushimi Dance is on the 7th. We really want to get a nice turnout for this dance, and it includes a Special Concert and Performance. On top of that it will be FREE, so this is a great event to come to.

Also, we are honored to have been invited to be participate in a preliminary "Dance For All" workshop on Saturday November 14th at the Kyoto Art Center, from 2 to 5pm.

(More info forthcoming but quickly: "Dance for All" is an event happening next January. Professional choreographers will work with "ordinary" (nonprofessional) people to create an original work to be performed on a real stage in Kyoto. Though the final event does not involve contra dancing, we have been invited to help the participants "get the dancing spirit" in preparation for the real event.)

As a result, we will *** NOT *** be holding a 3rd Saturday Takano Dance. So, the next Takano Dance will be...around Christmas!!! Ho ho ho!!!

Things we've done recently, and more upcoming events:

** Recently we had great time listening to Banchan and Marichan's concert at Woodnote! I've never seen so many people in tiny little Woodnote! But it made for a cozy atmosphere, and since she was practically sitting on top of me, I met Felicity Greenland. It turns out she hosts a free informal monthly singing session at Gnome, which I thought would be very interesting for people in our group, so I want to tell you about it.
She said her purpose is to introduce japanese people to "the songs everybody knows" from Japan and the English speaking world.
The atmosphere is very relaxed and easy going. Anybody can come, you don't have to know any songs, be a musician or have any experience singing, as they provide all the song sheets. I enjoyed meeting her and look forward to singing with them.

** I am not sure of the next meeting time, though it is usually on the last Sunday of the month, from 7.30-10.30

みなさま、こんにちわ。

先日送ったメールで、英語で書かれた伏見ダンスの日にちが間違っていたようです。
１日（日）２時からですので、お間違いなく。

それとは別件で、ぜひお知らせしたいことがあります。
わたしのように、体育の授業で、バスケットボールのときは水を得た魚のように、走り回っていたあなた。
バスケ部だったあなた。
バスケは好きだけど、運動がにがてで、別の部活にしたひと。
スラムダンクが好きな人。

いっしょにバスケしよう。

日にちは、８月２日（月）５時くらいから、京都産業大学の向かいの公園で。
たぶん、４時半ころ、堀川北大路で待ち合わせすると思います。

興味のあるひとは、連絡ください。
今のところ、わたしと、でびと、しちさんとぴゆさん（ともだち）の４人しかいないので、さみしいし休憩もろくに取れないので、人数がほしいです。特に、わたしと同類の、あまりすばやくない女の子、来て下さい。

Two quick updates. FIRST, I made a mistake on a mistake. The fushimi dance is on the 1st of August (not 8th). It is still the FIRST SUNDAY, as it ever was.

SECOND, on the very next day, Monday, the 2nd of August, is another event we are putting together with some friends, this time for people who are interested in playing basketball. So far we have met just one time, but it was enough to have a few great rounds of two on two, and to give ourself a name, the KAMIGAMO CUTLETS (BASKETBALL CLUB). The reason behind the name is that we meet along the Kamigamo River, far north along the river, next to Kyoto Sangyo Daigaku (Kyoto Industrial College). This is a little out of the way, but it seems to be the closest public court in kyoto that is available. We are still looking for a better location, if anyone has any suggestions. In the meantime, here is a link to a map:

リディアは、デイビッドの大のなかよしの、当時１１歳だった女の子です。今はもう1６、１７歳くらいになってるのですが、高校生のプログラムで、東京へ来るのです。デイビッドにも会いたいし、歴史好きだし、というわけで、京都にも遊びに来ます。ちょうど伏見ダンスがあるときに重なってるので、伏見ダンスにも連れて行く予定です。リディアは、子供のころからずっとコントラダンスにも来ているので、みなさなもお楽しみに。ぜひぜひ仲良くしてあげてください。

はい、そして、今週末は高野でコントラがあります。
7月17日（土）いつもどおり初心者講習5時半から、ダンス6時から、フィンガーフードでのポットラック（持ち寄りごはん）があります。

まいにちまいにち雨なので、その日も雨かもしれないので、なんらかの仮装をしてきた人はチャージフリー！一人くらいはしてきてほしい！

もし、偏西風のいたずらで最近頻繁に起こるスコール的大雨のばあい、当日になって中止することも考えられます。なので、当日来る前にはメールチェックをお願いします。直接「するかしないか」の電話連絡がほしい人は、その旨メールで教えてください。

We had a great time recently at Romain's Bastille Day presentation at the
French Japanese Institute. It was a lot of fun with many people in costume
and high spirits, so people had a great time. There will be videos
available soon, so check the (newly revamped) website.

We also have a piece of very exciting news. My very very special young
friend Lydia is coming to Japan in August! I am so excited -- I have been
waiting two years and it is finally happening! Lydia, who is coming to
Japan on a high school trip, was one of my dearest dance kid-pals in the
US, and I am really hoping I can introduce her to the contradance
community here. She is only going to be here for a short time, but luckily
I will be able to bring her to the Fushimi Contra on the 7th[update/correction...the fushimi contra is on the 1st....we will be have a picnic on the kamogamo on the 7th for lydia]. I really
hope as many people as possible can be there, cause I know she is very
interested in meeting japanese contra dancers!

In the meantime, this Saturday is the next Takano Dance. It may be rainy,
so as an incentive we will offer free admission to anyone who comes in
costume! As usual, we will have a fingerfood break (pot-luck,
cups/utensils, but no plates necessary). We will be focusing on having FUN
while dancing -- twirls, eye contact, and interacting with your
partners...so come ready to have a good time!

The weather report says there is only a 40% chance of showers,. We don't
expect we will cancel, but if the weather turns very bad, we might send
out a cancellation email. Please look for it before you head out. If you
want us to call you directly, or otherwise notify you, let us know, or

最近来てくださっているセリアさんからみなさんにお知らせです。

アナウンスタイムでおっしゃられていたブラジルのお祭りは、今週の日曜日に、神戸であります。おいしいブラジルの食べものや、ゲーム、「クァドリーリャ」という踊りもあるそうです。

コントラダンスのルーツの1つに、「カドリール」というダンスがあるのですが、それが、フランスの宮廷→ポルトガルの宮廷→ブラジルの民衆へ、と伝わって、「クァドリーリャ」になりました。

セリアさんや、柔道もうすぐ黒帯のセリアさんの息子さん、ロマン、でいびっどは行く予定ですので、興味あるひと、いっしょに行きましょう。わたし幸江までご連絡ください。

The War of the Quadrilles

Originally there were two dances, both of which were called contredances or quadrilles. French contradances, also known as quadrilles, are the ancestors of the modern square dance, and the english contradance are the familiar longways set dance that is now called Contradance.

They did not always co-exist peacefully:

The War of the Quadrilles

Another chapter in the history of the contras vs. squares rivalry occurred
two hundred years ago, in 1804, in New Orleans. It has been described by dance historian, Maureen Needham Costonis, as "The War of the Quadrilles." In December 1803, New Orleans became United States territory as part of the Louisiana Purchase. Prior to that time, the favored dances among the city's predominately French-speaking Creoles were French Quadrilles, referred to at that time as "French contredanses." French Quadrilles had not yet come to the United States, where "English contredanses" [contra dances] were still in fashion. On January 8, 1804, only a few weeks after the transfer to the Americans, a quarrel between the Creoles and the Americans broke out at a public ball, over which type of dance should be done. According to one account of the incident: "Two quadrilles, one French [a square], the other English [a contra], were formed at once. An American, taking exception, brandished his stick over a fiddler, and there was at once, great turmoil..." Eventually, after much persuasion, "...the French quadrille [square dance] was allowed to go on, but the American interrupted it on its second time around with an English quadrille [contra dance], taking his position on the floor; some one cried out: "If the women have a drop of French blood in their veins, they will not give in!'"

The contra-square controversy continued and erupted into a brawl at
another public dance later that month. As reported by the New-York Herald on March 10, 1804, the dancing began with cotillions [squares], followed by a country dance [contra] for twelve couples. The musicians were instructed to end the contra after all of the couples had been active, but six additional American couples joined the end of the line and demanded that the music continue. In the ensuing ruckus, fiddles got broken, swords were drawn, and dancers were arrested. In an effort to resolve the issue and let the dances continue, the New Orleans City Council stepped in, prohibiting citizens from carrying arms to the dances, assigning policemen to keep order, and legislating a rotation of dances: two "French contredanses[squares]," followed by one "English contredanse [contra]" limited to twelve couples, and then a waltz, to appease those of Spanish descent.

Following the War of 1812, with the exception of New England, which
remained pro-English, Americans completely abandoned the tradition of
English contra dances in favor of the French quadrilles. Quadrilles were
promoted as being "new" and "fashionable" and contras were seen as
"rustic" and "old-fashioned." While remnants of some of the formal
quadrille figures remain in New England squares as well as western
squares, they had less influence in the South and mid-West, where visiting couple squares became the popular form.

こんにちは、フランス人のロマンです。
只今一緒にフランスのフォークダンスぞを踊りたい人を募集しています。
京都にある関西日仏学館に一月から三月いっぱいまで広い場所を貸してもらっています。
学館が4月4日に行う「フランス語の日」のパーティーにフランスの踊りを15分ぐらい紹介するという条件でその場所をただでパーティーの日まで自由に使えるようにしてくれました。せっかくなので、フランスのフォークダンスに関心を持ってくれる皆さんに声をかけてみます。
一緒に練習しませんか？踊りの経験がなくても大歓迎します！踊りを隔週の土曜日にゆっくり教えたいと思います。また、演奏してくれる人がいたら、楽譜とCDを配ります。
詳しい事はとりあえず1月30日（土）10時から日仏学館のサロン（三階）で説明します。

The French Institute in Kyoto kindly let me use a room to practice folk dances if I show some short demo of folk dances during the Francophony Day on April the 4th.
That's why I'm looking for people who would like to participate to free folk dances sessions from January to March for April's party demonstration.
I think it's a very good occasion to discover French folk dances, in a friendly mood.
Beginners are welcome. We'll learn the dances together. If you want to play music, I have scores and cds to share.
I'll give more details during the first session, January the 30rd (saturday), from 10 to 12 AM, in the Salon, 3rd floor of the French Institute.
We're planning to practice every two weeks.

Bonjour ! Je cherche des danseurs et des musiciens pour un atelier de danses traditionnelles françaises.
L'Institut franco-japonais me prête gentiment une salle pour animer un atelier de danse de janvier à mars, qui s'achèvera par une petite démonstration le 4 avril, lors de la fête de la francophonie, à l'Institut.
Je recherche donc des personnes intéressées pour participer aux séances de répétition, gratuites et ouvertes à tous, en vue du spectacle du 4.
Il n'est pas nécessaire de connaître ces danses. Nous les verrons ensemble pendant les séances. Pour la musique, j'ai les partitions et les cds.
Le mieux serait de venir à la première rencontre, le samedi 30 janvier, de 10h à 12h, au salon de l'Institut (troisième étage).
Les répétitions auront lieu toutes les deux semaines.

First a big thank you to everyone who turned out for last night's dance.
It was one of our best dances so far, and a big thank you goes to Romain
for helping us "show eels to young maidens (la la la la)" and to
Shimizu-san for helping us "get back home", and Marichan and "jitsu ni
honBanchan" for the wonderful music.

Last night, Romain announced he is giving a free class in French Folk
Dance at the French-Japanese Institute. If you are interested, his email

Contra Dance this Saturday, New Format, CDSS

Happy 2010. I hope no one ate too much mochi during oshogatsu, but if you did, here is a chance to burn off some of those extra calories:

The important thing about this dance is that, after getting some thoughtful feedback at the last dance, we have decided to try a new format that we hope will make this a better experience for everyone.

The first half of the dance we are going to spend more time working on individual figures and making them easier to understand. We recognize that they seem complicated at first. It can take some time for them to become second nature, and especially to fit them all together while the music is playing and people are moving and there are distractions and so on. So we are going to change our teaching style, move much more slowly in the first half, and take the time make everyone feel they have it. We hope especially that this will help beginners have an easy time fitting in.

Another suggestion was to make the break a little shorter, more like a tea time. We are going to try this. At the same time, we would like to encourage people to consider bringing nutritious snacks...less chips and candy. Finger foods like onigiri or sandwiches and homemade snacks are great, or whatever other delicious and creative ideas people have. Many people are health conscious, and we want to make contra a healthy experience. Also, we hope this will reduce trash at the end of the night, and mean that people don't have to bring as much utensils and cookware.

Anther piece of interesting news, (thanks to Maureen!) is that we were recently contacted by Jennifer Beer, the Vice-President of the Contry Dance and Song Society (CDSS http://www.cdss.org/) in the US. , which is one of the oldest and most famous dance (including contra) societies in the US. She told us that about 20 years ago she taught a bilingual contradance for about a year at the British Sports Club in Kobe. I guess she beat us to Japan! In fact, in November she was in Kansai teaching English Country Dance. In her email she said that, as VP of the CDSS she has "vowed to build more connections between CDSS and Japan." So our little group is getting noticed in the contra dance world! Great work everyone! If anyone has any ideas how we can connect with them, let's talk!

Lastly, in case people don't know, I have recently updated the website, including fixing the NHK video, adding early Takano videos, and many Youtube videos. Please give us any feedback or let us know of any problems with the site. If anyone would like to write a small blurb about who they are and why they like dance, we would like to add more to the Who We Are and What People Say pages.

クリスマスコントラにきてくださったみなさん、どうもありがとうございました。師走のあわただしい時期にもかかわらず、たくさんの人が来てくれました。

フランスのコントラダンスを教えてくれたロマン、いつもいつも楽しい音楽を奏でてくれるばんちゃん、まりちゃん、どうもありがとう。フランスのコントラダンスは、簡単だったし、ステップやプロムナードの仕方が違ったりして、おもしろかったですね～。

それと、フィードバックをしてくれたみなさんもありがとうございます。来年の高野ダンスは、今までとはいろいろやり方を変えながら、よりよい方法を常に探していきたいと思います。特に、今のままでは初めて来てくれた人たちがうまくスタートを切れないときがあるようなので、以前から声が出ていたようにひとつのダンスにもっと時間をかけたり、ゆっくりダンスを覚えたり、また持ち寄り夕ご飯をやめて、軽食＋ティータイムくらいのかんたんなものにすることも考えています。
これからも何か気がついた点などありましたら、ぜひぜひ教えてくださいね。

また、HP上のNHKの映像、見れるように直したと思います。確認してくださったらありがたいです。

Thanks to everyone who came out for the Christmas Contra at Takano. I especially want to thank Romain for teaching us a french circle dance, and Banchan and Marichan for their patience and wonderful music. The dance was a lot of fun, and everyone was laughing so much....

I also want to thank people who gave us feedback about what new things we could do in the new year. Some of the ideas we are thinking about include
spending more time explaining the dances and the figures, especially in the beginning, so that people can understand the dances better, and making the break shorter, like a tea and snack time. It seems that the current time is good for most people, though some people also suggested doing the dance at the Art Center downtown, as this might be more convenient, and we are going to look into that.

By the by, I have fixed the problem with the NHK video on the website. If anyone has a problem viewing it, please let me know.

If you have any thoughts about the above or any other ideas, please let us know. We hope everyone has a wonderful Christmas and happy New Year.

Dance Tomorrow

Quick reminder that there is a dance tomorrow in Takano.
It is a Christmas dance, and our sources at the North Pole tell us that there may be a surprise visitor in red...If you are coming, we thought it would be fun if people could also wear red to suit the occasion.

みんなで都会のエアスポット、扇町の丘でピクニックをしながらのんびりゆったりと、ときには秋の空の下ビールなど呑みつつ、悩みの相談などしつつ、昼寝などしながら、みんなで踊りましょう。
※お昼ごはんにココルーム弁当あります（五百円。要予約）
コントラダンスとは？…日本ではまだ馴染みがありませんが、アメリカから来たみんなで気軽に踊れる踊り。ハイカラな盆踊りのようなものです。みんなで踊ろう。レッツダンス！

同じ日に扇町の丘の上でコモンカフェの「自分には不要でも誰かには必要なものをもってきて、あげるイベント」というのをやるらしいです。そこの人たちが参加してくれたらラッキー。

Fushimi, NHK broadcast, Next dances

The Fushimi Concert and Dance was great. Dragskip are really talented, the tap dancers were fascinating, and the singers were heartwarming. But for us the best part was seeing a roomful of people dancing contra with wonderful music and having a wonderful time. It really reminded me of being back home and feeling the energy of a roomful of dancers just grooving to the music. I can really finally say, Contra has arrived in Japan!!!

Tonight we saw our friend Armelle play accordion music and perform a dance piece. It was another truly international event, with Germans, Finns, French, Portuguese (me!), Japanese, and even Americans.

You can see her, and a whole bunch of us, on the segment NHK aired on the 10th...it looked great! Everyone was really having fun, and made it look really easy! Thanks again to everyone who joined us for it on the Kamogawa.

This Saturday we have our next contra...it will be interesting to see if all the recent events bring some new dancers. As a special treat, Romain is coming to teach us some more european folk dance. Plus we will have the usual food, friends, and contra...

踊るみなさま

いやはや昨日は、おやつもダンスも楽しかったです！あったかくて、おやつもおいしくて、盛り上がりました～。急だったにも関わらず来てくれたみなさん、ありがとうございました。

ＮＨＫの取材は、いったいどのような進め方になるのか事前にはわからなかったのでどうなることかと思いましたが、桂春蝶さんという若い落語家の方と、若いクルーの方たちが5名ほどいらっしゃいました。たくさんの人たちがインタビューされていましたね、見ていてとても面白かったです。

また昨日の通訳する人の数の多さと言ったら！英語から日本語、日本語からフランス語、中国語から日本語、フランス語から英語。。あれには私も春蝶さんに負けずびっくりでした。

また、これまた急にお願いしたアメルさんの演奏も、素敵でしたね～。アコーディオンでコントラを踊ったのは私たちが初めてかも！？今夜コンサートがあるそうなので、都合のつく方はぜひ。アルファベット・アベニューにて。（四条先斗町にあるバー。夜9時から。フリーチャージ。）

放送は11月10日（火）夜6:10～のＮＨＫ「京のいちにち」というニュース番組であります。11月7日の伏見でのイベントに間に合わないのがなんともざんねん！なのでみなさん是非お友達を誘ってどしどし整理券ゲットしてください！無料ですてきなバンドやパフォーマーをいくつも楽しめる豪華なイベントだよ。

踊るみなさま

こんにちわ。今日のコントラおやつピクニックですが、フランスから日本を旅行中のアメルさんが、アコーディオンで生演奏してくれることになりました♪

普段はダンサーでいらっしゃいますが、カフェーでときどきアコーディオン弾きもしてるそうです。ミュゼット（フランスのカフェーで流れていそうな音楽）が好きな私はほんものが聞けてうれしいです。

とにかく、今日はアコーディオン×コントラの初の試みです　＾　＾　飛び入り参加もおっけい、取材がどういうふうになるのか未知ですが、ぜひ来てね。

Well, the NHK "Emergency Dance" went GREAT!! A big thank you so much to everyone who showed up, and especially Ishiguro-san for working so hard to make it happen. We had a great time; it was a lot of fun watching everyone being interviewed. All the good spirit and wonderful things about contra dance really showed through in people's responses. Everyone was so sincere and warm, and most of all, joyful. And when the interviewer joined the dance, everyone really made it be and look so easy for him. It went perfectly, so thank you everyone!

A special MERCI BEAUCOUP to Armelle for coming through at the last minute and playing wonderful European folk music for us! In case anyone would like to hear her perform more, she is playing again tomorrow, this Sunday 10/25 that is, at "Alphabet Avenue", which is a bar at Pontochou douri
and Shijo. The show starts at 9:00 PM and also features another accordionist named Ryotarou. The event is free of charge.

The NHK segment will air on the 10th of November sometime after 6PM on NHK channel 1. The name of the show is Kyo no ichinichi. (Unfortunately, this is 3 days AFTER our event in Fushimi, Zannen!)

Otsukaresama. See you all in Fushimi on the 7th and Takano on the 21st.

final info on "Emergency Dance"

Well, the (so called) Emergency Dance is today at 1PM on the Kamo River, just south of Imadegawa, on the west side. We will be dancing for about an hour, and then having a picnic. The weather report predicts cloudy but dry weather, in the 20's (66 F). Some people will be meeting at Demachiyanagi Station at 1PM, and the location is a minute or two from there.

We were very lucky to find a very special musician to perform for us. (The lovely and talented ;-) Armelle from Auvergne (??), France will be playing traditional and original accordion music. She is realy wonderful to listen and dance to, so do come if you can!

Naturally, bring utensils, cups, plates, and if you can, a dish for the picnic.

We don't know very much about how the filming will be proceed, except that the name of the show is Kyo no Ichinichi. It is on the local NHK (channel 1 ?), and airs every weekday from 6 to 7 PM. It's a kind of local news and events show.

The premise of the segment will be that they will be walking along the Kamo with a certain rakugo talent (I don't know his name), and they will see us and come over to "check it out." The rakugo performer will then try to learn to dance, and so on...

If you want to share a little limelight, no matter what level dancer you are or how often you have come, we would love the help. こんにちわ。柿や花梨がそちらこちらでおいしそうに実ってま
すね。

突然ですけれども、ウィシグロさんがNHKの取材を取り付けま
した。すごい！１１月７日の伏見でのイベントにとっても、ふ
だんのダンスにとっても、よい宣伝になるかと思います。

ところが、今週末24日（土）13:00～15:00の間に、取材したい
と言われています。

せっかくなので、みなさんが踊ったり演奏したりしている映像
をとってもらいたいと思います。まったくもって突然ですけれ
ども、都合をつけられそうだという方、このメールにそのまま
ご返信ください。

場所はまだ決まっていませんが、高野から伏見の間のどこかに

ダンスとおんがくありがとう　＾　　＾

おどるみなさま

今回のダンスは色とりどりでしたね～　来てくれたみなさんありがとう！

島根にすむウエールズ娘のジョーさんのフィドルはスゴ腕だったし、
ロマンさんが教えてくれたフランスのスコティッシュ・ダンス（Schottishe　ボヘミアンたちに由来するフォークダンスみたい）もはじめてで面白かったし、
４歳のこびとさんたちも来てくれたし。大津や大阪から来てくれた人たちもいました。

バンドのみなさんの音楽もすごく贅沢でしたね。　
こんなに腕のいいミュージシャンたちが弾いてくれるんだから、１，２曲だけでなくもっと味わいたい！と思いました。３つのバンドのみなさん、どうもありがとうございました。

なんだかいろんなことが起こってドタバタしましたが、いつも来てくれる人たちに加えて新しい人たちもたくさん来てくれて、新しい交流がそちらこちらで見えました～

次回の高野ダンスは、１０月１７日（第３土曜日）です。

Well we certainly had an International (can I include Shiga, Fushimi, and Osaka as foreign countries?) and Interesting (toddlers, photographers, etc) dance this weekend...I want to thank everyone for coming: contra dance is not just about dancing or music, but about sharing time together with wonderful people, and always, one of the highlights of a dance is getting to chat with people, trying out people's homemade dishes, and enjoying the beautiful warm atmosphere. So thank you everyone for participating!

I must also give some quick very special thanks to the many musicians who made this event especially rich:

What great music we had! Many special diolch (thanks in welsh) to Jo from Shimane via Wales for playing violin. I want to thank her for teaching me a little about Welsh dance...I didn't know that Wales has it's own kind of dance event, called the Twmpath! And to Bosco and Heja and friend (!?) for giving us some foot stomping old-time music. Also, a big MERCI to Romain, from Paris via Brittany for giving us an energetic introduction to the Schottishe. And a big ようこそ　to Kamachan from far off Shiga for adding some lovely guitar sounds to Banchan and Marichan's excitiing music. And, not to be forgotten is おおきに to the Fushimi Contra Dance band for their Takano debut. And a big HURRAH to all the musicians for working together to really fill the hall with music at the impromptu finale with no time to rehearse!

So, our next Takano dance is OCTOBER !17th...See you there!

おどるみなさま

冷えてきましたね。寒がりの私は、一人もう冬がやってきたようなわびしい気持ちです。

踊って温まりましょう。。

今月はなんだか豪華です。バンドがたぶん３つも弾いてくれます。

さいきんデビューした伏見バンドと、いまやコントラの顔ばんちゃん＋まりちゃんに加え、BOSCOさんが久しぶりに都合をつけて弾きにきてくれます♪♪（さいきん来始めた人のために簡単に説明すると、オールドタイムというアメリカの南部の音楽でみんなを酔わせる、すごいミュージシャンです。）

ＢＯＳＣＯさんは島根からウエールズ娘も連れてきます。

あと、この間参加してくれた、フランス人のロマンさんが、今回はブルターニュ地方のフォークダンスを教えてくれるそうです☆たのしみですね～♪

そしてもしかしたら、4歳の子供とお母さんが2組やってくるかも。

というわけで超豪華になりそうなコントラダンス、お見逃しなく！！

踊る皆さま
こんにちわ。この間のダンスに来てくれた方、どうもありがと
うございました。
この間は新しい人たちも４，５人来てくれたので、とってもに
ぎやかで、大笑いの時間になりましたね。まだコントラに慣れ
ていない人も多かったのに、盛り上がりました〜
ウィシグロさんが初めて書いたダンスを踊ったり、ロマンさん
がフランスのフォークダンスを教えてくれたりして、本当に楽
しかったです♪♪
９月のダンスも第３土曜日の予定です。今からカレンダーに○
しといてください！
今回のダンスで、みんなが内履き履いて踊ってたら、バランス
のときに足でダンダン！と音が鳴って、きっとさらに楽しかっ
ただろうと思ったので、次回から内履き持ってる人はぜひ持っ
てきてください。よろしくお願いします。

、みんなでコントラダンスの夜を楽しみませんか。
日時: ２００９年９月１９日 (土)
夜の６時から９時
（初心者講習５時半から６時）
場所:カトリック高野教会第一伝道館
持ち物：
・内履き用靴。きれいに拭かれた外履きでもよいです。
・おいしいお料理一品(できれば肉料理より野菜料理を)
・マイ食器(箸、ボウル、マグカップなど)
参加費:500円

勉強会ありがとう＋来週末は高野コントラ

このあいだの日曜日に、コントラ勉強会にきてくれたみなさん、どうもありがとう。朝ごはんもケーキもメロンも、いろいろおいしかったし、実のある時間になったんじゃないかと思います。

特に、トワル（twirl）を集中して練習できたのが、とてもよかったと思いました。トワルが加わると、コントラはダイナミックになって、個々人で好きな風にユーモアが加えられるようになるから。今はなかなかコツがつかめていないという人も、数をこなせばスムーズになっていくと思います　＾　　＾　　みんなでクルクル！

来週末は８月の高野コントラです。最近高野は人数がなかなかあつまらなくて、いいダンスが踊りにくいので、みなさんぜひびしばし来てください。来れそうな人はメールで返信してくれると大体の人数がわかって助かります。よろしくお願いします☆

◆日にち:9月6日(日)
◆時間:午後３時〜８時
※途中参加・早退ＯＫ
◆会場:男山レクリエーションセンター
(京阪八幡駅からケーブルカーで山上駅へ、その後徒歩10分)
(駐車場あります。ちょっと道が分かりにくい。)
※アクセスは相談に応じます。
◆集合:
会場までの足・到着時間に応じ、別途連絡します。
◆会費:
一般3000円
女性2500円
大学生2000円
高校生1000円
留学生1000円
◆持ち物:
マイ食器(皿・箸・コップなど)、汗ふきタオル、
体温調節できて汚れてもいい服装、靴は運動靴で。
◆特別な募集:
1.車を出せる人
2.宿泊する人(車で来ても心おきなくアルコールが飲めるよ。)
別途1000円、限定5人
◆時間割:
15:00ピクニックタイム
16:00バーベキュー準備
17:00最初の乾杯
18:30片付け
19:00ファイヤーコントラタイム
20:00中締め→二次会
◆雨天
雨天の場合は、キャンプファイヤーのみ中止です。
バーベキューは決行します。
